Book excerpts for March

In March 1945, the Canadian Forces had been ordered to break through the Siegfried Line in order to reach the Rhine River.  To do this, they had to fight their way through five forested woods - the Reichswald, the Moyland Wood, the Hochwald, the Diersfordter Wald and the Tuschenwald.  They reached the Rhine by the end of March.

The Canadians had been expecting to continue their push into Germany.  However, the Dutch had been starved during the winter of 1945, and the Allies feared for their survival.  The Canadians were ordered to free the Netherlands from Nazi occupation.
